This beautiful, antique edition of Days with Sir Roger de Coverley Reprint from the Spectator was published in 1892 by Macmillan and Co. So the book is from the latter part of the Victorian era.
The book is bound in teal cloth with elaborate gilt detailing to the front board and spine. It's a real beauty and the gilt compliments the teal cloth superbly. It was part of the Cranford Series released by the publisher Macmillan and Co. It's in very good condition with just light wear to the corners and some minor soiling to the gilt text block edges. The book shows a slight forward lean and there is faint dulling to the spine; crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The back board has a few faint scuff marks.
Inside, the pages show sporadic foxing most prominent to the preliminary and end pages. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is tanned. The beautiful black and white illustrations by Hugh Thomson add to the charm of this Victorian book.
Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 13cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
