This stunning, Victorian copy of Parables from Nature by Margaret Gatty with Notes on the Natural Historyn was published by George Bell and Sons in 1880. Margaret Gatty uses nature to teach readers about God and faith.
This lovely Victorian book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards with blind stamped decoration and gilt detailing to the front board and spine. All edges gilt. It's in good condition for it's age but there are signs of wear. There is rubbing and bumping to the board edges and corners. The boards have some minor marks and scuffs. The spine is lightly faded, with crushing to the spine ends which has caused some splitting and fraying in the cloth. There is a small hole to one edge of the spine.
Inside, the pages have the age toning and foxing one would expect in a book of this age. Sadly there are cracks to the gutter in places, which are causing some page segments to be loose. There is a neatly written inscription to the front free endpaper, alongside a bookseller's stamp.
The book features beautiful black and white illustration plates throughout which add to the charm of this stunning edition.
Dimensions approximately 22.5cm x 18cm x 5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
