This stunning antique edition of Glimpses of the Land of Scott was published by Virtue and Co in 1888 and both written and illustrated by George Barnard. So the book is from the mid Victorian era.
The book is bound in brown cloth with beautiful decoration in gilt and black to the front board and spine. All edges are gilt. It's in very good condition but there is some minor marking to the boards, including splash marks. There is faint sunning to the spine and light wear to the corners.
Inside, there is cracking to the front hinge and at the gutter in places. The title page and frontispiece are a little loose at the bottom but the rest of the pages feel tightly bound. There is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown. The pages show light age toning and occasional foxing but are otherwise clean and bright for their age.
The book features beautiful full page black and white illustration plates.
Dimensions approximately 25.1cm x 19.4cm x 2.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
