This stunning antique edition ofNorth Coast and Other Poems by Robert Buchanan was published by George Routledge and Sons in 1868. So the book is from the earlier part of the Victorian era.
The book features is bound in blue cloth with bevelled boards and gilt text block edges. The boards and spine feature ornate blind stamped decoration and gilt detail. It's a really stunning book! It's had some restoration work with a cloth spine reback - a new cloth spine is inserted with the original spine glued over the top.
The front board and spine are dulled compared to the back board. There is light wear to the corners and the cloth covering the bottom corners has split to reveal the board beneath. The board edges show some rubbing and bumping, with very minor chipping to the cloth in places. The boards show minor discolouration near the top edge, and there is light soiling to the cloth. The new blue spine can just be seen peeking out from the old one at the spine ends.
Inside, the hinges have been reinforced with tape and the pages show age toning throughout. There is foxing to the pages, with sporadic marking and minor staining. The pages feel tightly bound.
The book features beautiful black and white illustrations throughout that help bring the poetry to life.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
