This beautiful, antique hardback edition of Heber's Hymns was published by Sampson Low, Son and Marston in 1870. The book is bound in maroon cloth with stunning gilt decoration in a floral pattern to the front board and gilt lettering to the spine. The boards are bevelled and the text block edges are gilt.
It's in good condition for it's age, but the corners do show some wear, with slight splitting and fraying to the cloth. The boards show light marking, and there is some bumping to the board edges. The spine and edge of the back board are faded, and crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a name plate on the front pastedown and a pencilled scribble to the FFEP. There is also an inscription on one of the preliminary blank pages. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing throughout, with occasional marking. There is superficial cracking to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book features stunning black and white illustrations throughout, which make this an even more lovely book.
Dimensions approximately 20.3cm x 16.5cm x 2.2cm.
