This 1870 Book of Ballads by Bon Gaultier is the Eleventh Edition of this famous work. It was published by William Blackwood and Sons and is bound in original publisher's cloth. There is blind stamped detail and gold gilt to the front board and spine. It's an attractive binding and in remarkably good condition considering it's almost 155 years old.
There is light wear to the corners and there is denting to the edges of the boards. The boards show minor marks and discolouration and the spine is faintly sunned with crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there is a scribble to the front free endpaper but no other writings or pen marks of any kind. There are some small holes to the frontispiece but these are quite subtle. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing/marking. Please note that there is a small hole (it looks like it's been made with a compass) from pages 27 to 39. This does not affect the text.
The book is filled with beautiful black and white illustrations by Doyle, Leech and Crowquill.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 14.5cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
