This beautiful antique edition of The Poetical Works of Cowper with Life was published by John Kendrick in 1851.
The book is bound in brown cloth with striking blind stamped decoration and gold gilt to the boards and spine. The text block edges are gold gilt. It's in good condition but there is some wear and light crushing to the corners. The boards show marking and light soiling, and there is minor shelf wear to the board edges. The spine is sunned and darkened, with rubbing to the gold gilt. Crushing to the spine ends has caused slight splitting in the cloth. There is light soiling and scuffing to the text block edges.
Inside, the front hinge is cracked and there is some writing to the front pastedown. The front free endpaper has a neatly written name and a bookseller's stamp. The pages show age toning throughout, and there is sporadic marking and foxing in places. A previous owner has dog eared the top corners which has left creasing behind. There is cracking to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
There are beautiful black and white plates inside, each with it's own tissue guard.
Book dimensions approximately 16.2cm x 10.5cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
