This wonderful five volume set of The Poetical Works of Edmund Spenser includes his best known work the Faerie Queene. They were published in 1839 by William Pickering and are bound in contemporary full Morocco with five raised bands to the spines. The top edges of the text blocks are gilt.
They're in very good condition but there is significant marking to the leather boards, as well as scuffing and scrapes to the leather. The corners show some wear and the spines are lightly faded, with some minor loss to the surface of the leather in places.
Inside, there are name plates glued to the front pastedowns of every volume and the pages show age toning and sporadic foxing throughout.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 17cm x 11.5cm x 2.3cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
