This listing is for a beautiful half leather bound edition of The Father and Daughter by Mrs Opie. It was published in 1824. Amelia Opie was an English author and vocal abolitionist, who published numerous novels in the Romantic period up to 1828. The story tells the story of a young woman who falls prey to a Libertine and her father's subsequent descent into madness.
It's in good condition but there is significant wear to the paper, with loss to the edges. The leather has been treated to keep the book in good working order. There is rubbing to the spine and minor loss to the head of the spine. There is spotting to the text block edges.
Inside, the pages show significant age toning, foxing and marking throughout. Pages 107 - 110 are missing but someone has added in the missing pages, printed on modern paper. Some of the page segments stick out from the edge of the text block. Some of the top corners have been dog eared by a previous reader which has left creasing behind, and there is a small vertical tear to the top edge of page 149 (this does not reach the text).
This little book measures just 16.6cm x 10.4cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra
