This beautiful antique edition of Stories of Wild Beasts by Ascott R Hope was published by Gall and Inglis. The book itself is undated but after some research, I'd estimate it to be 1880's. The book is bound in grey pictorial cloth over bevelled boards with gilt detail to the front and spine. All edges gilt.
It's in good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners which has caused slight splitting to the cloth. There is wear and light bumping to the board edges and rubbing to the front board. The back board is marked and soiled, with some long scuffs to the cloth. The spine is faded and lightly rubbed; crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth at the tail of the spine.
Inside, there is a Library stamp to the verso of the front free endpaper. The pages have light age toning and scattered marking throughout. There are occasional cracks to the gutter in places but all pages remain tightly bound. There are a handful of black and white plates inside, along with black and white line drawings within the text.
Dimensions approximately 19.3cm x 14cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
