This stunning edition of Lamb's Tales from Shakespeare was published by Blackie and Son for the Stories Old and New series. The book itself is undated but I've done some research and this series of books was brought out in the 1930's. So the book is approximately 90 years old.
The book is bound in red cloth with a pasted on colour illustration to the front board and art deco decoration framing it. The same decoration can also be seen on the spine. It's in very good condition but the corners are worn and crushed and there are some minor marks to the cloth. The back board shows some discoloured and the spine is also significantly sunned. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth and there is a little foxing to the text block edges.
Inside, the endpapers are illustrated and there is a written inscription on the front free endpaper. The front pastedown has a bookseller's sticker in the bottom corner and some small ink marks. The pages show light age toning and sporadic foxing but are otherwise clean and bright. The book includes both colour plates and black and white line drawings within the text.
Dimensions approximately 18.7cm x 14cm x 2.5cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
