This stunning antique edition of The Poetical Works of John Greenleaf Whittier was published by Frederick Warne and Co. The book itself is undated but I've seen other books in this binding with inscriptions and they usually date from the 1890's.
The book is bound in navy cloth with elaborate gilt decoration to the spine. It's in very good condition with light wear and bumping to the corners. The text block edges show foxing and someone has written their name in pencil to two edges. There is a bump to the top edge of the front board near the joint.
Inside, there is some writing to the top corner of the front free endpaper. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing, most noticeable to the margins.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
