This beautiful antique edition of Nina's Career by Christina Gowan Whyte was published by Henry Frowde in 1908. So the book is from the latter part of the Edwardian era.
The book is prettily bound in pale blue cloth, with pictorial decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. The decoration has quite an art nouveau feel to it. It's in good condition for it's age but there is wear to the corners which has caused slight splitting and fraying to the cloth. The gilt text block edges are marked and there is bumping and rubbing to the board edges. The boards show minor marking but the spine is more noticeably faded and marked. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The spine edges are rubbed and there is the tiniest hole in the cloth at the back external hinge.
Inside, there is a presentation glued to the front free endpaper and an old rubbed out price to the top of the front pastedown. The pages show age toning and scattered foxing throughout, with occasional marking. There are cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain securely bound. Please note that the book has a slight musty odour.
Dimensions approximately 19.8cm x 15.5cm x 5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
