This stunning antique edition of The Good Shepherd and His Lambs was published by Alfred Holness for the Glasgow Bible and Book Depository. The book itself isn't dated but there is a written inscription dated 1882 and the title page states this is the second edition. So the book is from the late Victorian period.
The book is bound in grey blue cloth with blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. It's a very attractive binding and in good condition for it's age. The book shows a slight forward lean and there is wear and minor fraying to the corners. The boards show light marking and discolouration, and the spine is faded. There is rubbing to the spine edges and crushing to the spine ends; the text block edges are foxed.
Inside, there is a name pencilled on the front free endpaper and a written inscription on the reverse of the FFEP. The pages show age toning and sporadic foxing, with occasional marking to the pages. Some of the pages show creasing and there are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places - despite this pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 17.5cm x 13.5cm x 2.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
