This stunning antique edition of The Gateway to Romance features retold tales from William Morris' Earthly Paradise. It was published by Thomas Nelson and Sons. The book isn't dated but there is an inscription dated 1909 - so the book is likely to be from the Edwardian era. .
The book is bound in green cloth with ornate floral decoration and gilt detail to the front board and spine. It's a really beautiful edition. This lovely vintage book is in good condition for it's age but there are signs of wear. The corners are crushed and worn, with splitting to the cloth. The board edges are lightly bumped and rubbed. The boards show minor marking and there is crushing to the spine ends which has caused some minor splitting in the cloth. The text block edges are lightly toned and foxed.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully illustrated. There are written initials on the reverse of the frontispiece and a crossed out inscription on the title page. There is age toning and foxing to the pages, but the text is clear and bright.
Dimensions approximately 23.5cm x 18.5cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
