This beautiful early Victorian First edition of The Poetical Works of Catherine Grace Godwin was published by Chapman and Hall in 1854. It's a rare book and at the time of listing I can find no other editions for sale online.
The book is bound in original beige cloth with beautiful embossed decoration and gilt to the front and spine. All edges gilt. It's in good condition but there is wear and crushing which has caused splitting to the cloth. The cloth shows quite heavy discolouration and spotting. The spine is darkened and wear to the spine ends has caused some splitting in the cloth. Crushing to the spine ends has also caused splitting.
Inside, the pages show scattered foxing throughout but the text and illustrations are clear and bright. The preliminary pages feel a little loose but are still attached. There are 39 wood engraved illustrations.
This is a large boo, dimensions approximately 28.5cm x 23cm x 5.3cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
