This stunning edition of The Island of Refuge by Mabel Mackness was published by Blackie and Son. The book itself is undated but there is a presentation plate inside dated 1900. So the book is from the very end of the Victorian era.
The book is beautifully bound in blue cloth with pictorial decoration to the front board and spine. It's in very good condition with just some light wear to the corners and the boards show minor marking - there is also a faint stain to the back board. There is some chipping to the decoration and a small dent to the edge of the front board.
Inside, there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown and tanning to the endpapers. The rest of the pages are age toned with sporadic marking - there are also occasional cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 17.2cm x 12.5cm x 1.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
