This stunning little vintage edition of The Chimes by Charles Dickens was published by Collins Clear Type Press. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be circa 1910's.
The book features a limp leather binding, with delicate gilt detailing. Limp leather bindings originated from the medieval era but they became popular again in the late Victorian period. The leather extends over the edge of the book block in what's known as a yapp binding. This makes it very easy for the leather to become damaged and torn around the edges.
The book is in very good condition with light wear to the edges of the leather and faint scuff marks to the leather. The spine is faintly sunned and there is bumping to the spine ends.
Inside, the endpapers are lightly tanned but the rest of the pages are clean and bright. There are beautiful floral borders to the text pages which is really lovely.
Dimensions approximately 14.3cm x 10.2cm x 1.6cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
