This beautiful vintage edition of Scottish Chiefs or Life of Sir William Wallace by Jane Porter was published by Walter Scott Ltd. The book itself is undated but I've seen these bindings with earlier inscriptions and they were usually brought out in the early 20th century circa 1900/1910. So the book is likely to be from the Edwardian era.
The book is bound in green cloth with blind stamped decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. The binding has quite an art nouveau feel to it. It's in very good condition, with just minor marks to the boards and text block edges. The spine is lightly faded and marked, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there are no inscriptions or writings of any kind. The pages show light age toning and occasional creasing.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.5cm x 3.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
