This beautiful antique edition of The Golden Staircase Poems and Verses for Children was published by T C and E C Jack. The book itself isn't dated but there is a name written inside dated 1909. So the book is likely to be from the Edwardian era. The book is bound in purple cloth with ornate gilt decoration blind stamped to the boards and spine. Top edge is gilt.
It's in good condition, with the main flaw being the fading to the spine. There is a small hole in the cloth covering the spine and the spine ends are crushed. The back board shows some discolouration and marking and there is also a bit of fading to the top of the front board. The corners are bumped and lightly worn, with loss to the cloth covering the bottom of the corners (see photo).
Inside, there is a name and date written on the half title page and the pages show light age toning and scattered foxing throughout. There are also occasional pencil scribbles and marks. The page edges are rough cut and there are beautiful colour illustration plates by M Dibdin Spooner.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
