This beautiful edition of Least Said Soonest Mended by Agnes Giberne was published James Nisbet & Co Limited. This particular edition isn't dated but I've seen different books in this same binding, and they date from the Edwardian period (1902-1910).
The book features green cloth boards with stunning art nouveau decoration blind stamped to the front board and the spine with delicate gilt. It's in good antique condition but there are signs of wear. The book has a slight forward lean and there is light crushing to the corners. The boards show minor marks and there is also air bubbling to the cloth. The spine is sunned and crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the endpapers are tanned and there is a small chip to the edge of the front free endpaper. There is a very slight split starting to the top of the internal front hinge but the pages remain tight to the binding. The pages show age toning and foxing throughout, with occasional marking, but the text is clear and bright.
The book dimensions are approximately 20cm x 13.5cm x 3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
