This beautiful vintage hardback edition of Flowers of the Field by Rev C A Johns was published by George Routledge and Sons in 1907. The book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards, with pictorial floral decoration to the front and spine.
Externally the book is in very good condition with just some light wear and crushing to the corners. There is wear and bumping to the board edges, and a very small chip to the cloth at the edge of the front board. The cloth shows some marks and scuffs and there is a dent to the spine over the ER of Flowers in the title. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the text block is very shaky with some page segments feeling a bit loose. There are cracks to the gutter throughout and one of the plates is detached. The pages show age toning and heavy foxing throughout. There is a pressed thistle opposite the colour plate of the thistle and some of the pages show creasing.
The book features beautiful colour plates, alongside black and white line drawings within the text.
Dimensions approximately 22cm x 15cm x 4.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
