This beautiful antique edition of English Madrigals in the Time of Shakespeare was published by J M Dent and Company. There isn't a date on the title page but the preface is dated 1899.
The book is bound in pale blue grey cloth with elaborate gold gilt decoration to the front board and spine. The most noticeable flaw is the significant fading to the gilt on the spine, which is very dull in comparison to the front board. The corners are worn and lightly crushed, and there is minor marking to the cloth. The boards edges are bumped in places, and the spine ends are crushed with slight splitting.
Inside, there is a crossed out name on the front free endpaper. The pages have some minor marking and tanning in places but are otherwise clean and bright. There is cracking to the gutter in places but the pages are tightly bound.
The book features rough cut pages which is a lovely feature in antique books. There is one black and white frontispiece.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
