This lovely antique edition of The Poetical Works of Thomas Hood was published by George Routledge. The book is undated but I'd estimate it to be from the mid to late Victorian era (circa 1880).
This lovely book is bound in blue cloth with delicate gold gilt detailing and blind stamped decoration to the front board and spine. The front board also has a burgundy and gold indented decoration inset into the front board which is really eye catching. It's in remarkably good condition considering it's age, but the corners do show some light wear and fraying. The board edges are rubbed and lightly bumped, and there is a small hole to the cloth at the top of the front board. The boards show minor marks and the spine is very faintly sunned. Crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a neatly written name and date on the front pastedown, as well as a beautiful ex libris plate. The pages show age toning and foxing but the text is clear and bright.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.5cm x 4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
