This stunning edition of The Fifteen Decisive Battles of the World by Sir Edward Creasy was published by Richard Bentley and Sons in 1893. So the book is from the late Victorian era. It is full bound in Tree Calf leather with five raised bands and gilt tooling to the spine. There is a school insignia blind stamped in gilt to the front board and the text block edges are marbled.
The book is in good condition for it's age with the most noticeable condition point being the split to the bottom of the front hinge. Despite this, the board feels very secure. There is some scuffing and bumping to the boards and light marking to the leather. The corners are worn, with loss to the leather covering the bottom corner of the front board. The spine shows light wear and chipping to the surface of the leather; the top edge of the text block is dulled.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled and there is a presentation plate glued to the front pastedown. The pages show age light toning and sporadic foxing but the text is clear and bright.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13cm x 3.2cm.
