This beautiful edition of The Book of Old Fashioned Flowers by Harry Roberts is volume iv in what would have been a complete set of Practical Gardening Handbooks. It was published by John Lane The Bodley Head in 1901.
The book is bound in green cloth with decoration to the front board. It's in very good condition, but there is some rubbing to the lettering on the spine. There is minor rubbing and bumping to the corners and slight darkening to the spine.
Inside, the endpapers show significant foxing and age staining, as well as a pencil sketch of a hen dated 1901! There is also an old pencilled price in the top corner of the FFEP. The rest of the pages are clean and bright with only very occasional minor marking. There are some minor bumps and chips to the page edges in places.
Dimensions of each volume is 19.5cm x 13.3cm x 1.5cm.
The books will arrive securely wrapped in bubble wrap, patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
