This beautiful collection features all of Jane Austen's novels and some of her short stories. The cloth is a lovely reddish pink and the title labels on the spine are bright blue. They were published in 1948 by Allan Wingate. The six volumes include Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey and The Watsons, and Persuasion and Love and Friendship. What's lovely about this set is that even though the condition isn't great, it still has it's original box which is really rare to see.
The boards are clean and bright, with only minor marks and one stain. There is crushing and wear to the corners and the spines are sunned - some of the spines are damaged, and two have been inexpertly taped together to hold them in one piece. They could do with some restoration work but I thought I'd leave that up to the purchaser. The spine ends are crushed which has caused some fraying to the cloth.
Inside, the pages are in very good condition with just light age toning and occasional foxing. I spotted a few red crosses in the margins in places but this is minor and rare.
Box Set measures approximately 19.5cm x 13.5cm x 13.5cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
