This lovely edition of The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott was published by Humphrey Milford Oxford University Press in 1916.
The book is bound in full tree calf leather with beautifully delicate gilt decoration to the spine. The spine also features five raised bands and the text block edges are marbled. Tree calf leather is one of my favourite bindings and is treated with an acid solution to produce this magnificent tree-like effect.
It's in near fine condition, with just some wear to the spine ends and minor chips to the leather of the spine. The boards have some scuffs and bumps, and there is dulling to the top edge of the text block.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled and there is a written inscription one of the preliminary blank pages. The pages show light age toning and very occasional foxing.
Dimensions approximately 19cm x 13.5cm x 4cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
