This beautiful edition of A Book of Verses for Children was compiled by Edward Verrall Lucas and published by Chatto and Windus in 1919.
The book is bound in beige cloth with beautiful pictorial decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. It's in good condition for it's age but there is some light wear and crushing to the corners. The boards show some wear to the decoration, with some chips and minor loss. The cloth is lightly soiled and marked, and the spine shows faint darkening. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully illustrated and the title page is beautifully decorated. There is a written name in pencil on the reverse of the FFEP. The pages show age toning throughout, with sporadic foxing and marking. The half title page is loose at the bottom but still attached. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places but other than the half title page, all pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions approximately 20cm x 13.5cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
