This beautiful vintage edition of The Double Garden by Maurice Maeterlinck was published by George Allen and Unwin Ltd in 1914. It is bound in green cloth with gilt decoration blind stamped to the front board and spine.
The book is a collection of essays exploring nature and the human soul.
It's in very good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners. The board edges are bumped and rubbed, and there is some very minor marking to the back board. The spine edges are rubbed and the gilt on the spine is dulled. There is crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully illustrated and there is a neatly written name on the front free endpaper. The pages show light age toning (the toning is most noticeable to the endpapers) but the text is clear and bright. A bump to the top corner of the text block has caused some of the pages to fold in on themselves.
This little book measures just 17cm x 11cm x 1.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
