This stunning antique edition of The Professor at the Breakfast Table by Oliver Wendell Holmes was published by JM Dent and Co in 1905. So the book is from the mid Edwardian era. It's finely bound in half vellum, with delicate gilt floral decoration to the spine. Top edge is gilt.
It's in good condition but there are some condition points to be aware of. There are some small brown marks near the head of the spine and the spine is darkened. The boards show some marks and stains, and there are a couple of small chips/holes in the green cloth. The boards are slightly bowed.
Inside, the endpapers are beautifully marbled and there is both a written name on the verso of the front free endpaper. The pages are clean and bright with only light age toning. There is cracking to the gutter at the title page. Some of the pages appear to have been cut by hand by a previous reader, and this has left a few of the page edges quite jagged with some loss to the paper (this does not reach the text).
The book is filled with black and white illustrations by HM Brock which add to the charm of this old classic.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
