This stunning antique edition of The Household of Sir Thomas More by Anne Manning was published in 1906 by J M Dent and Co Ltd. So the book is from the Edwardian era. It made up part of the English Idylls Series of books.
The Household of Thomas More is an account of life within the house of a man who served Henry VIII as Lord High Chancellor of England.
The book is bound in pale green cloth with ornate gilt decoration to the front board and spine. It has a clear plastic jacket which will help keep the cloth from soiling. It's in very good condition, with just some minor marks and discolouration to the boards. There is light wear to the corners and the spine is darkened. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, the pages are clean and bright with only occasional minor marking. The endpapers are tanned and there is cracking to the hinges - despite this, the pages remain tightly bound. The book features 24 colour plates by C E Brock, an iconic illustrator best known for illustrating Jane Austen's work.
Dimensions approximately 20cm x 13cm x 2.5cm.
All books purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
