This beautiful and unique edition of Thoughts from the Letters of Petrarch was published in 1901 by JM Dent and Son. It features a wonderful full vellum binding with hand painted detail and metal clasps in the form of a cherub. It's an absolutely stunning binding that's unsigned. It may have been an apprentice's piece as several different techniques have been used. The top edge is gilt with gauffered detail.
It's in very good condition but this is some loss to the painted decoration and the vellum shows significant soiling. There is some wear and bumping to the board edges.
Inside, the endpapers have a floral pattern, illuminated in gilt. The pages have age toning throughout, with occasional marking and foxing. The page edges are rough cut which make the book feel ever older!
There is one black and white frontispiece.
Dimensions approximately 16.5cm x 11.5cm x 2.2cm.
Every book purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned paper and ribbon.
I try to use eco friendly packaging wherever possible. This includes 100% recycled jiffy bags, biodegradable bubble wrap, and paper offcuts from the newspaper industry.
