This beautiful vintage edition of The Works of Edgar Allan Poe was published by Chatto and Windus. The book is undated but there is a written inscription inside dated 1896. So the book is from the late Victorian era.
The book is bound in green cloth with intricate gilt detail to the front and spine. It's in good condition but there is light wear to the corners and minor bumping and shelf wear to the board edges. The back board shows some scuffing and minor marking. There is sunning to the spine which has caused the cloth to darken, whilst crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is a written inscription on the half title page and the pages are clean and bright, with just some age toning and sporadic foxing. There are occasional cracks to the gutter in places through the book, but the pages remain tightly bound. There is a tear to the edge of the Contents page and creasing to the top corner of the title page which wasn't trimmed correctly and sticks out from the edge of the text block.
The book is filled with stunning black and white illustrations throughout.
