This beautiful antique book of Forest Outlaws or St Hugh and the King was published by Seeley and Co in 1887. So the book is from the Victorian era.
The book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards with ornate blind stamped decoration in black and gilt to the front board and spine. It's a really stunning binding that's in very good condition - the main flaw is some past water damage to the spine and back board. This has left discolouration to the cloth. There is light bumping to the board edges and crushing to the spine ends. The text block edges show faint foxing.
Inside, there is an absolutely stunning plate to the front pastedown and a presentation plate to the FFEP. The pages show light age toning but the text is clean and bright. There is a crease to the top corner of the half title page and there are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places - despite this, the pages remain tightly bound. There are pretty illustration plates.
This lovely book measures approximately 19.5cm x 14.2cm x 4cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
