This stunning and very unusual edition of Voices by the Night by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was published by Thomas Crowell in 1893. It is bound in pale blue cloth with gilt decoration to the spine and what I think is a Bakelite panel (although this would be a later addition as Bakelite was only invented in 1907) to front board with a floral bas relief. I've never seen a book quite like it.
It's in good condition but there is marking to the cloth and darkening to the spine. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. The boards are a bit bowed and there is minor marking to the Bakelite.
Inside, there is a written inscription on the front free endpaper, along with a separate name. The pages show age toning throughout with occasional marking and creasing.
The book features a handful of black and white plates. Dimensions approximately 15.2cm x 10.6cm x 2.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. The bubble wrap I use is 100% biodegradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
