This beautiful, antique edition of Sacred Allegories by Rev Edward Monro was published by J Masters and Co in 1882. So the book is from the latter part of the Victorian era.
The book is bound in grey green cloth over bevelled boards, with stunning pictorial and gilt decoration of flowers on a branch to the boards and spine. It's in very good condition for it's age but there is some wear to the corners with minor fraying to the cloth. The text block edges show foxing and the boards are lightly soiled and marked. The spine is faintly sunned and marked, with crushing to the spine ends.
Inside, there is very slight cracking to the hinges but the pages remain tightly bound. The pages show some light age toning and foxing throughout, with other occasional marks. There are beautiful black and white plates inside.
Dimensions approximately 18.8cm x 13.5cm x 4.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
