This stunning antique edition of Things A Lady Would Like To Know Concerning Domestic Management and Expenditure by Henry Southgate was published by William P Nimmo in 1874. So the book is from the mid Victorian era.
This beautiful book is bound in green cloth over bevelled boards, with elaborate blind stamped decoration and gilt to the front board and spine. It's in good condition but has obviously been quite well loved! There is wear and splitting to the cloth at the corners, most noticeably to the bottom corners. The board edges are worn and bumped, and there is rubbing and dulling to the gilt decoration. The boards show marking and rubbing, and the cloth of the spine is faintly darkened. Rubbing to the spine edges has caused some small splits in the cloth, and crushing to the spine ends has similarly caused some splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is staining to the frontispiece and tissue guard but the rest of the pages show only light age toning, with occasional foxing and marking. There are some superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.
The book is filled with striking black and white illustrations within the text which add to the charm of this antique book.
Dimensions approximately 21.8cm x 15.5cm x 45.2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
