This beautiful edition of The Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus by Washington Irving was published by George Routledge and Sons in 1850. So the book is from the early Victorian era. It is bound in half calf with marbled paper boards. The text block edges are marbled. The spine features five raised bands and gilt tooling.
It's in good condition with the most noticeable condition point being the damage and loss to the paper on the front board. The boards show light scuffing and marking, with some chipping to the surface of the leather in places. The spine is lightly rubbed and worn and the board edges have some peeling to the paper.
Inside, the endpapers are marbled and there are no inscriptions. The pages show light age toning throughout with very occasional foxing.
Dimensions approximately 17cm x 11cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
