This stunning antique edition of Drawings from Nature by Barnard Progressive Instructions in Sketching includes Progressive Instructions in Sketching, along with Lectures on Art delivered at Rugby School. It was published by George Routledge and Sons in 1877 and both written and illustrated by George Barnard. So the book is from the mid Victorian era.
The book is bound in brown cloth with beautiful decoration in gilt and black to the front board and spine. All edges are gilt. It's in good condition but wear and crushing to the corners has caused some splitting in the cloth. It's undergone some restoration work, with a new cloth spine inserted under the original spine. There is marking and scratches to the boards, with some small areas of bleaching near the top of the front board and to the spine. The board edges show light shelf wear and the spine also shows some wear.
Inside, the pages show light age toning and occasional foxing but are otherwise remarkably clean and bright for their age. The pages feel tightly bound.
The book features beautiful black and white illustrations within the text, as well as plates.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
