This lovely Victorian edition of Milton's L'Allegro And Il Penseroso was Illustrated by Birket Foster and published by Kent and Co in 1860. It's bound in brown cloth over bevelled boards, with beautiful decoration and gilt to the front board and spine.
It's an attractive binding and externally it's in very good condition. There is light wear to the corners and board edges, and the boards have minor marks. There is some rubbing and dulling to the gilt, and the spine is faintly darkened.
Inside, please note that the title page is detached and there is a name plate glued to the front pastedown which has caused staining on the opposite page. There are some small holes in the page opposite the title page and a little wear and tear to the edges. The pages show light age toning and occasional foxing.
Dimensions approximately 27.8cm x 19.3cm x 2.3cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned paper and string. The bubble wrap I use is either oxo-degradable or 100% recyclable; the jiffy bags are recyclable.
Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
