This beautiful two volume edition of Our Village by Miss Mary Russell Mitford was published by Henry Bohn in 1852. So the books are from the early Victorian era.
The books are bound in olive green cloth with beautiful floral gilt decoration to the spines. They're in good condition but there is wear and splitting to the cloth at the corners and both volumes show a slight forward lean. There is marking to the text block edges; the boards show discolouration and marking. The spines are sunned, and crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting and loss to the cloth. There are also some splits in the cloth at the joints.
Inside, the books have a smoky odour and there is cracking to the hinges. The pages show age toning throughout with sporadic foxing. There are occasional cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 19cm x 12.8cm x 3.8cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubbled wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
