This wonderful two volume edition of A Lytell Geste of Robin Hode With Other Ancient Ballads and Songs was published by Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans in 1847. So the books are from the early Victorian era. They feature a contemporary half Morcco binding, with marbled boards and endpapers. The spines have five raised bands and gilt tooling.
They're in good condition but there are signs of wear. There is significant wear to the corners and board edges, with splitting and loss to the surface of the leather and paper in places. The boards show minor marks, discolouration and scuffing, with small chips to the marbled paper. The spines are faded and discoloured, with some loss to the leather at the head and tail of the spines.
Inside, both volumes have book plates glued to the front pastedown. There is superficial cracking to the hinges but the pages remain tightly bound. The pages show age toning throughout, but are remarkably clean and bright with minimal marking and foxing.
The books both have a frontispiece and small vignettes to the text. Dimensions of each volume approximately 21cm x 15.3cm x 3.3cm.
Every book purchased will be hand wrapped in patterned paper and string.
I try to use eco friendly packaging wherever possible. This includes 100% recycled jiffy bags, biodegradable bubble wrap, and paper offcuts from the newspaper industry.
