This beautiful and very rare first edition of Flowers of The Matin and Even Song or Thoughts for Those Who Rise Early was published by Grant and Griffith in 1845. At the time of listing I can find no other antique copies of this book online.
The book is bound in green cloth with delicate gilt decoration to the front board and spine. Both boards have blind stamped detail. The corners are bumped and worn, with fraying to the cloth. The boards are discoloured and stained, and the back board has some light scratches. The spine is faded, with crushing to the spine ends that has caused splitting to the cloth.
Inside, the front hinge has been reinforced with tape and the text block has been resewn. This means the pages are tightly bound, even if a couple of page segments stick out slightly from the edge of the text block. There is a neatly written inscription on the front free endpaper, and the tissue guard for the frontispiece is badly foxed. The rest of the pages show more minor foxing and marking, with age toning throughout. There are two other colour plates beside the frontispiece.
Dimensions approximately 17cm x 11cm x 2cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
