This wonderful three volume edition of Frank by Maria Edgeworth was published in 1844 by Whittaker and Co in 1844. So the books are from the very early Victorian era. They are bound in original publisher's cloth which is lovely to see in such old books.
"Frank" is a novel by Irish writer Maria Edgeworth that was originally published in 1808. It follows the story of an heir to a wealthy Irish estate as he navigates social complexities, family expectations and his own impulsiveness. It's a social satire of Irish society and the aristocracy.
The books are in very good condition but they do show slight forward leans. The corners are worn and crushed, with splitting and fraying to the cloth at the bottom corners. There is some marking to the text block edges and to the boards, which also show scuffing and wear. Crushing to the spine ends has caused some splitting and loss to the cloth, and one spine has had a split repaired with glue (bottom joint of back board).
Inside, the endpapers show soiling and there is a neatly written name in all three volumes (opposite the title page). The pages show age toning and occasional marking, with some creasing to the paper in places. There are superficial cracks to the gutter but the pages remain tightly bound. There are also some bookseller's stickers to the front pastedowns.
Dimensions of each volume approximately 14.5cm x 10cm.
The books will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
