This stunning edition of The Birds and Their Story by R.B.Lodge A Book for Young Folk was published by Charles H Kelly. The book itself is undated but there is an inscription dated 1905. So the book is from the mid Edwardian era.
The book is bound in red cloth over bevelled boards with gilt decoration and blind stamped detail to the front board. It's in good condition for it's age, but there are signs of wear. The corners are worn and lightly bumped. The boards have some minor marking, and the back board also shows light scratching and discolouration to one edge. The spine is faded with crushing to the spine ends, which has caused some slight splitting to the cloth. There is a dent to the top edge of the front board which has caused some damage to the board.
Inside, the endpapers feature a beautiful bird pattern. The half title page is very tanned. There is a neatly written inscription on the back of the frontispiece. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is torn at one end, as well as being creased and tanned. The rest of the pages are in good, antique condition, with only light marking and discolouration. There are superficial cracks to the gutter in places, but the pages are all tightly bound.
This is a large, heavy book, measuring approximately 20.2cm 15.2cm x 3.5cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
