This lovely cloth bound edition of Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen was published by Blackie and Sons. The book itself isn't dated but there is an inscription dated 1916. So it's approximately 110+ years old.
The book is bound in green cloth with pretty floral decoration to the front board and spine. It's in very good condition with just some light wear and bumping to the corners and minor marks to the cloth. The text block edges show some foxing and the spine is a bit rubbed. Crushing to the spine ends has caused very minor splitting in the cloth.
Inside, there is tanning to the preliminary and back pages, and a written inscription on the half title page. The pages show scattered foxing throughout and there are occasional cracks to the gutter - despite this the pages are tightly bound. There is a small tear to the bottom edge of the half title page.
There is a lovely black and white frontispiece but no other illustrations. Dimensions approximately 18.5cm x 13cm x 2.7cm.
The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.
I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is oxo-degradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
