It features illustrations by Hugh Thomson, who is one of my favourite illustrators. Perhaps most well known for illustrating some Austen works. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis sought after edition by Macmillan edition was part of the Cranford series. They have become quite iconic with their teal cloth binding and elaborate gilt decoration to the front board and spine. Frances Burney was an author writing before Jane Austen and her writing greatly inspired Ms Austen (the phrase Pride and Prejudice first appeared in Burney's Cecilia, years before Ms Austen wrote her world famous novel). Her witty writing style coupled with realism garnered a large following and her novels followed young ladies on their journey into society. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt's in good condition but there is rubbing to the gilt, particularly to the spine which is noticeably dulled. The corners are worn and lightly bumped and there is scuff marking to the back board. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth; one page sticks out slightly from the edge of the text block. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside, there is cracking to the hinges, revealing the binding webbing, and other cracks to the gutter in places through the book - the pages remain tight to the binding.
