It's bound in contemporary half calf, with five raised bands and leather title labels to the spines. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCharlotte Yonge was quite an incredible woman but not well known to modern readers. Her writings were admired by famous authors such as Lewis Carroll, CS Lewis, Anthony Trollope and Christina Rossetti. She was born into a religious family and her writings frequently reflected the values of Anglo-Catholicism. Y\u003cspan\u003eonge was herself sometimes referred to as \"the novelist of the Oxford Movement\" and s\u003c\/span\u003ehe\u003cspan\u003e taught for 71 years at her local Sunday School. Her novels such as \u003ci\u003eThe Daisy Chain\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eThe Young Stepmother\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eThe Trial\u003c\/i\u003e, and \u003ci\u003eThe Three Brides\u003c\/i\u003e encompass Victorian problems of urban pollution, sanitary reform, and the frequent epidemics of diseases such as cholera and typhoid. She urged social, economic and medical reform of dirt-ridden Victorian cities.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey're in very good condition, but there is fading and marking to the spines. The leather shows scuffing and there is light wear to the corners. There is water staining to the top edges of the text block. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside, the pages show age toning, most noticeably to the margins, and there is occasional foxing and handling marks. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDimensions of each volume approximately 18.5cm x 13.5cm x 3.2cm\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI\u003cspan\u003e use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable.
