It is a sex manual and midwifery book that was popular in England from the time of it's first publication (1684) right up to the 19th Century. This edition is undated but I'd estimate it to be late Victorian (circa 1890's).\u003cspan\u003e It was written by an unknown author who falsely claimed to be Aristotle - there are two schools of thought as to why they did this. The first was the belief that it would put children off from picking the book off the shelf. The other school of thought is that it gave the book more gravitas to be associated with Aristotle.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe book is bound in red cloth with beautiful black floral decoration to the boards and gilt detail to the spine. It's in good condition but there is some soiling and discolouration to the cloth, as well as wear to the corners. Crushing to the spine ends has caused minor splitting in the cloth. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside, the hinges are cracked which makes the text block feel shaky. The back free endpaper is missing. The pages show tanning and there are superficial cracks to the gutter in places. The text block edges are marbled. It's in good condition but there is wear and crushing to the corners which has caused the cloth to fray and split, revealing the board beneath. There is wear to the board edges and marking to the boards. There is significant wear to the spine, with loss to the surface of the leather at the spine ends and spine edges.
